Scalloped Tomatoes
(From Southern U. S. Cuisine)

Ingredients

1 (28 oz.) can cut up tomatoes

1 sm. onion, chopped

1/4 c. butter or margarine

1 1/4 c. dry bread crumbs (I use Italian bread crumbs)

1/2 c. brown sugar

1 tsp. salt

1/8 tsp. pepper

Note: I add 1 teaspoon diced bottled garlic and 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Directions

Saute the onion in butter. Add the bread crumbs and brown sugar. Cook the mixture slowly until well mixed. Add the tomatoes and seasonings. Place the mixture in a shallow buttered baking dish. Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees.

Serves 6 to 8.
