Sandy's Broiled Ham and Pear Kabobs

1-1/2" cubes of cooked ham or roast pork

1 medium red bell pepper, cut into 1-1/2" sections

1 medium green bell pepper, cut into 1-1/2" sections

3 firm pears, peeled, cored, and quartered

Ingredients for Currant Sauce

1/2 cup currant jelly

Juice and grated rind of 1 orange

1 teaspoon dry mustard

1/2 teaspoon ginger

1/8 cup brown sugar, packed

Prepare ham, bell pepper, and pears in appropriately sized sections to put on skewers and set aside.

In a small saucepan, combine last 5 ingredients and bring to a simmer over low heat, stirring to blend well.

Add pear quarters to currant sauce and simmer for 5 minutes (they should still be firm when you remove them for skewering).

Arrange pears, peppers, and meat cubes on skewers.

Set skewers on roasting pan and broil, basting often with currant sauce and turning skewers once (5 minutes on each side).

I love this with rice.

Sandy's Note: This is a very old recipe that I've been using for 30 years. I think it would also be delicious grilled outside.
