Larry Mathews' Barbecued Beans


4 cans (16 ounces each) pork and beans

3/4 pound ground beef

1/2 pound hot sausage (patty)

8 to 10 slices crisp bacon

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

3/4 cup molasses or honey

3/4 cup barbecue sauce

1 tablespoon Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

Couple of dashes Louisiana Hot Sauce

1-1/2 cups finely chopped onion

1/2 cup bitters (Peychaud's Agnostura)

1 teaspoon dried mint

1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke


Cook ground beef and sausage until well done. Make it into a fine texture with a fork while cooking. Drain off the fat. Cook bacon crisp and crush over the other meats you just cooked.

Open the beans and drain off the juice. Mix the meats and all the other ingredients with the beans. Bake in a pyrex bowl or baking dish at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Serve hot.

Larry's Note: Each time this stuff is reheated, it seems to taste better. It alsio freezes very well for later use. This stuff is plenty good! I guarantee!
