RECIPE FROM "SANDY'S
1-3/4 Cups Milk
1-1/2 Tablespoons Sugar
2/3 teaspoon Vanilla
8 pieces Thick cut bread (like "Texas Toast")
Lightly beat the eggs. Whisk in the milk, sugar, and vanilla. Melt half the butter in a heavy skillet. Add half the bread to the mixture. Turn and allow it to just become saturated. Place in the pan and brown on both sides (turning once). Repeat with the remaining bread. Serve topped with warm syrup and powdered sugar.
Note: Substituting your favorite liqueur for the vanilla extract in a French Toast recipe can create wonderful new taste combinations. A few that work well are Frangelico (hazelnut), Irish Cream, Grand Marnier (orange), and Amaretto (almonds). Remember that many liqueurs have very concentrated flavors. Start with small amounts and add more if needed
